Here are the heroes and zeros from the Broncos’ 19-8 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.HeroesBroncos defense: For the first time this season, Denver’s defense looked like a formidable group. They weren’t perfect, but held their own against Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Co. Outside linebackers Nik Bonitto and Jonathon Cooper continued to make strides as pass rushers. Meanwhile, the Broncos allowed the Chiefs to score just one touchdown in five trips inside the Denver 20-yard line. In the first quarter, the Chiefs were at Denver’s 15 when Bonitto grabbed Mahomes by the ankle, forcing him to throw an interception to safety Justin Simmons. The Broncos also held Kansas City to 4 for 13 on third down.Related ArticlesDenver Broncos | PHOTOS: Denver Broncos fall to Kansas City Chiefs 19-8 in NFL Week 6 Denver Broncos | Broncos offense goes dormant, Russell Wilson picked twice in 19-8 loss to Chiefs on Thursday night Denver ...

Broncos offense goes dormant, Russell Wilson picked twice in 19-8 loss to Chiefs on Thursday night

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On a short week of preparation and facing Kansas City as a double-digit underdog on national television, Broncos coach Sean Payton outlined the path to an upset.“If I gave you Sunday halftime lead win percentage, so the normal time-slot games on Sunday — (who’s) winning at the half, and who wins the game — it’s probably in the 60-some percentile,” he said Tuesday. “What’s unusual is on Thursday nights is it spikes. I just finished talking about fast starts.“It’s important.”Only problem: His offense didn’t get the message.Payton’s group got shut out into the fourth quarter, quarterback Russell Wilson turned in a performance that vacillated between disjointed and disastrous and the Broncos lost to the Chiefs for the 16th straight time to move to 1-5 to start the season. This version of the same old story: 19-8.“To win in this league you’ve got to be better throwing the ball,” said Payton, who thought the wind affe...

Broncos 4 downs: Vance Joseph’s defense showed up for Taylor Swift. Too bad Sean Payton, Jerry Jeudy didn’t.

Initial thoughts from Broncos’ 19-8 loss to Kansas City in Week 6 at GEHA Field:1. Sorry, Jerry. Steve Smith was right. Sean Payton has still never been shut out as an NFL coach. So there’s that. (Cue the golf claps.) But the Broncos’ first 17 pass plays of the evening also netted 31 yards. And the clock management? Yikes. This one felt funky right from the start. After clapping back at NFL Network analyst Steve Smith, causing Smith during the pregame to call the 2020 first-round pick a “tier 3” wide receiver, Broncos wideout Jerry Jeudy responded to the challenge by … catching three balls for 14 yards on five targets. Smith was right on the money, and Jeudy knows it. The truth hurts. And it hurts even more when it’s coming from one of the best at his position for a generation.2. Andy Reid messed around … and didn’t find out. Credit where it’s due — “off” coverage aside, Vance Joseph’s defense, in a flip o...

Here are our takeaways.Rusty fundamentalsMichael Malone has said the most important area of growth he needs to see from Zeke Nnaji is on the defensive glass, where the center hasn’t matched his offensive rebounding tenacity. Nnaji and pretty much everyone else for Denver struggled to box out Thursday. The Nuggets were out-rebounded 26-13 in the first half, including seven offensive boards for Andre Drummond in 7:36 on the court. Chicago had 15 offensive rebounds before Denver registered its first of the night.Defense was sloppy and the offense alternated between dazzling and haphazard. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray had three turnovers each, and Peyton Watson had four.Young players benefitted from the opportunity to defend against Chicago’s starters, who stayed in the game into the second half. Watson got reps guarding DeM...

While the shortage of some critical drugs used to treat cancer patients is not as severe at one Virginia hospital system as it was in the spring, another drug has recently become short in supply.Dr. John Deeken, president of Inova Schar Cancer Institute, said the general shortage of one drug started around March, and then “rapidly with a few more in the early summer.” In the last month or two, he said, circumstances have improved, but there are still ongoing shortages.A survey of 29 cancer centers across the country found that 72% experienced a shortage of the drug carboplatin, and 59% reported a shortage of cisplatin, CNN reported last week. The responses were part of a survey conducted by the National Comprehensive Care Network.First, Deeken said, there was a shortage of Fluorouracil, which is used to treat colon and rectal cancers and is involved in treatment plans for breast, head and neck cancers. Then, there was a shortage of cisplatin, which Deeken described as &#...
