Brooklyn man pleads guilty to gun charges

GREEN ISLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Brooklyn man has pled guilty to multiple gun charges, according to the Department of Justice. Burlington Nieuenkirk, age 46, confessed on August 17 to illegally possessing three loaded firearms as a felon. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Nieuenkirk admitted that on April 30, 2020, while at a residence in Green Island, he knowingly was in possession of three loaded pistols, one of which had been reported stolen. A previous felony conviction for robbery prevented Nieuenkirk from legally owning firearms in New York.The case was investigated by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Albany County District Attorney’s Office. Nieuenkirk faces up to 10 years in prison, as well as a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of up to 3 years when he is sentenced on December 11.Watervliet man sentenced to 25 years for rape

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Eric Edwards, 70, of Watervliet, was sentenced to 25 years in state prison for first-degree rape. According to the indictment, Edwards had sexual intercourse with a child under 11 on February 17, 2020. The child was known to Edwards.“While no prison time will restore the innocence stolen from this child, the maximum was theonly sentence appropriate for this heinous crime," said Assistant District Attorney Jennifer McCanney. Commerce City police continue to look for a man who they say shot and critically injured a 15-year-old worker at Santiago’s Mexican Restaurant on Thursday afternoon — a shooting that stemmed from a dispute between a customer and the employee.Officers were called to Santiago’s at 5230 E. 72nd Ave. just after 4 p.m. to find the teen employee with a gunshot wound.
